Set #4: Visionen

The old school that turned into an art centre that turned into a neighbourhood museum.

Effi Weiss und Amir Borenstein, The Complete Jessy Cohen Museum, Israel

Since 2016 Effi & Amir, along with residents of the Jessy Cohen neighbourhood have been developing The Complete Jessy Cohen Museum, produced and hosted by The Israeli Center for Digital Art. It is an ongoing art project that appropriates museum practices such as collecting, researching, selecting, curating to dismantle and re-assemble the neighbourhood’s reality, memory and image.

During the workshop Effi & Amir will present the project focusing on the participatory process and together with the participants will look at methods for multi-perspective work with a local community.

effi & amir are Effi Weiss and Amir Borenstein.
They are living in Brussels and are working together since 1998.
When they left Israel in 2002 their new status as immigrants in Europe and outsiders in their own culture oriented them towards an ongoing investigation of the notion of place and collective identity. Their practice involves video, performance and participatory strategies and often stems from documentary.
